Davis Brown Architecture

We are a small design firm with offices in Ojai and Venice, California.

In responding to the individual needs of our clients, we have developed a practice that is characterized by the weaving together of a building with its natural setting. Climate, solar orientation and local weather patterns - including fire and flood cycles - are critical to our understanding of context and inform our long-standing embrace of sustainable strategies.

While much of our work focuses on the interplay between sheltered (architectural) and un-sheltered (garden or landscape) spaces, we remain keenly attuned to spatial choreography within the building envelope. Our diverse portfolio of work evinces a consistent, modernist sensibility while also reflecting a deep respect for the traditional design contexts of Southern California - Spanish Colonial, Craftsman and Mid-Century.

Our practice is defined by its commitment to a collaborative design process that encourages the contributions of the client, consultants and builders. At its core is an ability to address the practical and aesthetic needs of the client while responding to the unique context of a project.
